Tips to Making the Perfect Popcorn

No movie is complete without a big bowl of popcorn. This delicious snack has been enjoyed for decades by people all around the world, and it’s no wonder why: Popcorn is easy to make, contains very few calories compared to many other snacks, and is inexpensive.

The following 5 steps will show you how to make popcorn, be it salted caramel popcorn or the original flavored one, that will have your friends coming back again and again for this tasty treat.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

To make the perfect salted caramel popcorn or any popcorn of your preference, you’ll need good corn kernels and oil. You can use virtually any type of oil although some people prefer coconut oil for its light and flavorful taste. No matter what type of oil you choose, it should be heated to around 350 degrees F (176 C).

Following that, you will need a saucepan or pot with a lid and of course, some popped corn! A good rule of thumb is to use 2 tablespoons of oil for every 1/3 cup of kernels you put into the pan.

Step 2: Heat Your Oil

First, pour your chosen amount of kernels into your saucepan and cover it with a lid. Make sure the bottom of the pan is completely covered with kernels, from side to side and top to bottom.

Place your pot over medium-high heat for approximately 2 minutes. The oil should be heated up by then which will help pop the corn when it’s added later on.

Step 3: Add Oil & Kernels to Pan

Once your oil is hot, pour it into the pan over the kernels. Do this quickly as you do not want the oil to burn.

Put on your oven mitts and give the pan a shake so that all of the kernels are covered in oil. Place on the lid and wait for about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Shake & Pop

After a few seconds, release the lid and watch for the kernels to start popping. Once they do so, give your pan another quick shake and replace the lid. Wait about 30 more seconds before repeating this process until all of the kernels have popped into delicious popcorn.

You can choose to leave your popcorn plain or you can add seasoning.

Step 5: Season to Taste

To keep your popcorn healthy, try using salt and pepper as a base. Apart from the popular  salted caramel popcorn, here are some great ideas for seasonings that everyone will enjoy!

  • Salt and vinegar
  • Garlic powder
  • Chili powder
  • Cinnamon

If you want to get creative, try using the chocolate sauce as a topping for your popcorn. It tastes like dessert but is full of vitamins and nutrients that will keep you satisfied until your next meal!

Be sure to have lots of napkins on hand to eat your delicious popcorn. Once you’re done, you will have the perfect snack that is sure to be enjoyed by everyone!
